What is Dialysis ?

Kidney is one of the most important organs of the human body. It helps to cleanse the body of all the unwanted waste and toxins. Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) results from slow and steady damage to kidneys due to improper diet, various addictions and mostly over consumption of drugs/pain killers in today’s lifestyle. Dialysis is used for people whose kidneys don’t work properly. It’s a common treatment that has been used for people with kidney problems since the 1940s.

Dialysis is the artificial process of eliminating waste (diffusion) and unwanted water (ultra filtration) from the blood. Our kidneys do this naturally. Some people, however, may have failed or damaged kidneys which cannot carry out the function properly – they may need dialysis.

Today India is the world capital for diabetes. According to a study done by W.H.O., there are 3.2 crore people in India suffering from diabetes out of the 18 crore global diabetic population. These are very alarming figures and are estimated to rise to an astonishing 5.72 crores by 2025. As the age old saying stands true here that ‘Prevention is better than Cure’. One does not have to take out time for this but only has to develop a healthy lifestyle. In case of CKD, preventive measures include early detection and early treatment by close monitoring of Blood Pressure and Blood Glucose by dietary modifications, medications, regular exercise and routine follow up. In India one lakh people develop End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) every year. Out of this, 90 % of the patients never see a nephrologist. ESKD patients have only two options , either Permanent Dialysis or Kidney Transplant. This is where SHRI GURU GAUTAM MUNI MEDICAL AND CHARITABLE CENTRE comes into picture.
